This class will introduce the basics of measuring and notching the setting for the perfect fit! Don’t worry about having the right tools, as they will be included in your kit.     It will only take 3 hours, but by the end of class you will have a working Hourglass Pendant. We will use sterling silver to make caps and add additional sparkle with a gemstone setting at the bottom. Students who work quickly may be able to finish two projects.

    Descrption
    Long walks on the beach have yielded pockets full of treasure and nowhere to go but in a jar. Here is a way to turn them into something wearable. This class will offer hands on experience with a flex shaft and how to properly use it to drill glass and stone. (Note: there are no guarantees made as to the completion of project due to the sensitivity of glass. Colors and sizes will vary from sample.) Tools available for purchase from instructor.

      A MUST if you want to drill shells and pearls. However, this is optional for classes with fumes such as etching and patinating. Classes that have a lot of dust do not require a mask, but it up to you if are you sensitive. (ie enameling.) Dust masks may be purchased at any hardware store.

      Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.

      Protective Eye wear – All drilling classes require that you wear some sort of safety glasses. Will your eyeglasses be enough? This is a personal decision. Some students prefer to wear only their prescription glasses while others wear goggles over their glasses. These may be found in any hardware store.
    • Super Grip Gloves

      Optional for all classes, but most have found these very helpful for drilling class and classes that require a lot filing sanding. Not only will they protect your hands, but the grip will allow you to hold onto the stones you are working with.

    Learn how to make a beautiful and complex key pendant, with a vintage feel. After you have made a key of your own design, we will tackle the challenge of combining pretty pre-fabricated embellishments with your silver key. You will leave class with a wealth of new skills and a beautiful and unique key: your Key to SUCCESS!All students will finish a project. End results will depend on the students’ skills. Students must have silver soldering skills.

    Spend the day exploring leather working while creating custom, leather cuff bracelets. Students will learn to cut, dye, braid and finish leather for a professional look. Then we will add a little metal stamping to add to the leather. Projects may be customized by each student to suite their taste. There will be enough time to finish 3-4 bracelets depending on designs chosen by the student.

  • Micatallic Enamel

    Description
    Learn to create metallic looking designs in enamel using bold contrasting colors and mica. Students are asked to bring their own rubber stamps of choice, bearing in mind that we will be working on a surface less than 1”x1” in size.

    • Bench Block

      Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
    • Butane Torch

      Great for small soldering projects, annealing and torch fired enameling. Instructor will provide torch and butane for every class needed. (1 for every 2 students for most classes other than basic soldering.)

      Pistol style torches may be used interchangeably to the MaxFlame torches. Its larger head is great for heavy or larger projects.

      IF a #2 flat brush is designated, again just looking for a smaller sized brush.


    • Rawhide/Leather Mallet

      Shape and flatten metal without marring it. #2 mallet is a standard size. Instructor will provide for every class needed. A yellow nylon mallet may be used in its place, however a rubberone may not.
    • Metal Ruler

      6" metal ruler is preferred unless otherwise noted. A larger one will also work, however, it may be a little cumbersome.

      Usually on the list for use of cutting paper patterns or the like.
    • Side Cutters

      Also known as wire cutters or snippers. For many of my classes I prefer Ultra Flush side cutters because it eases the workload.       By using a tripod instead of soldering board you are reducing heat sink. Tripods are also used for torch fired enameling. Instructor will provide for every class needed.

      This is different from a hand punch as it has 2 sizes in one tool. Instructor will provide to share (1 for every 2 people) for every class needed.

      Used to dap metal to create a convex/concave shape in metal.

    Drilling, shaping, forming, soldering and finishing all rolled into one class. We will even make a magnetic clasp to bring it all together. Pieces may be used to make a bracelet or individually for a pendant and earrings.

    Created to tantalize the eye, this class will make the silver spin with a glimmer of gold. Using multiple skills to bring it all together, we will shape and form metal to keep the pieces moving.

    • Bench Block

      Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
    • Bezel Shears

      Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. (Tin snips or airplane shears will also work, however, they may be large and cumbersome.) If the project has curves in the design and you own a pair, bring curved bezel shears. This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.
    • Chasing Hammer

      Used for chasing/moving metal. In my classes chasing hammers are used to create hammer marks on metal and riveting. Instructor will provide for every class needed.
    • Tool Circle Template

    No one has time to wait for metal to patina naturally. In this class we will hasten the process by exploring eight different techniques to colorize metal using commercially available patinas and non-toxic patinas you can find in your kitchen. After we have created a patina we will use several different methods to seal your metal to preserve the colors you have created. Then I will show you have to reverse the process if the color you created turn out to your liking.

    Create a fun bracelet with all of those pebbles you have been picking up! In this class, you will learn how to properly use a flex shaft to drill stones and put it all together with wire. To create depth and interest we will patina and polish the bracelet.

    Add shimmering elements to enamel that will set it apart. In this class you will set stones (colors will vary) and fuse silver elements to torch fired enamel to create more interest and shimmer. Students will have the option to make earrings, pendant or links.
