Descrption

Discs can be used for so much more than just stamping messages. Lets make them bloom into a beautiful pendant complete with a semi-precious stone to give it a touch of color. Students who work quickly may be able to make two for a pair of earring or two pendants.
Tools
Some tools will be provided by the instructor. Please refer to your registration.
- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Bench Pin
  There are a variety of bench pins available on the market, any will do. However, you will need to bring a 4” or larger C-clamp. As the C-clamp provided with a bench pin does not fit most tables at the shows.
- Bezel Shears
  Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. (Tin snips or airplane shears will also work, however, they may be large and cumbersome.) If the project has curves in the design and you own a pair, bring curved bezel shears. This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.
- C-clamp
  To be used with bench pins to clamp to tables. May be found at any local hardware store. Must be at least 3 inches.
- Cut Lube
  Used to lubricate saw blades and drill bits for ease of cutting.
- Flex shaft
  Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.
- Hand Tools
  
  Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.
  
  Round nose - Typically it is preferred that the round nose be a fine tip. Especially for classes with detailed wire work.
  
  Chain/needle nose – Tapered jaws for general metal and wire work. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes. Typically requested for classes to be used for opening and closing jump rings; in which case, 2 pairs are requested or a combination of chain nose and flat nose is suitable.
  
  Flat nose – Similar to chain nose but the jaws are not tapered. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes.
- Helping Hand/Third Hand
  Used to hold small parts in place while soldering. Instructor will provide to share for every class needed.
- Jeweler’s Saw
  Used for cutting sheet metal and metal tubes. Instructor will provide for every class needed.
- Magnifier or Optivisor
  – For almost all classes this is listed as an “As Needed” tool. If you have sight challenges it is recommended that you are properly prepared. For advance stone setting classes this is required! If you decide to use reading glasses consider better than 2.5x.
- Metal Dap Set
  Used to dap metal to create a cup shape. 3 sets will be provided during classes to share. If you are bringing a set, please check with the instructor for needed sizes. Usually an entire set is needed for a class, only parts. This will lessen the weight you need to carry.
- Muslin buffing wheels
  Used with a flex shaft or Dremel to polish metal.
- Needle File Set
  Used for filing smaller pieces of metal and tight places. When required, either diamond coated or fine tooth is preferred. Some students may prefer to use smaller files as opposed to the student files for their projects.
- Nylon nose parallel pliers
  – Parallel action provides even pressure while holding firm. I love using nylon parallel pliers to manipulate my metal. Parallel pliers were my favorite pliers until they made nylon nose parallel pliers. For almost all projects these pliers are optional. You may use regular nylon nose and parallel nylon nose interchangeably.
- Ott Light or Task Lamp
  This is optional item that is listed for every class. It is up to you to determine whether or not you will need to have one depending on your vision.
- Rawhide/Leather Mallet
  Shape and flatten metal without marring it. #2 mallet is a standard size. Instructor will provide for every class needed. A yellow nylon mallet may be used in its place, however a rubberone may not.

Description

Tired of the same old thing? Take a turn in your silver to create this classic yet modern pendant. You will learn the secret to transforming sterling silver sheet into a graceful form. In this class, you will work on your sawing, soldering and finishing skills. Students should have some soldering and sawing experience. Students will complete the pendant, but will want to refine it at home.

- Bench Block

Description

Controlled reticulations takes patience and a little bit of skill. Through a serious of firings we will create an organic texture to create interest in sterling silver. This project is the perfect for those who like to “melt” silver.
Tools

- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Bezel Rocker
  There are 2 bezel rockers on the market, the one shown is preferred, but if you own the other one it will work also. I usually have 2 to share at the shows.
- Bow Opening Pliers
  
  Reverse action pliers enabling the jaws to open when the handles are squeezed. Used mostly to stretch metal.
- Chasing Hammer
  Used for chasing/moving metal. In my classes chasing hammers are used to create hammer marks on metal and riveting. Instructor will provide for every class needed.
- Hand Tools

- Tool Nylon Bracelet Bending Pliers
  
  Bracelet bending pliers make re-shaping bracelets easy, but can also be used to create consistent shapes in wire and more.

This ring might look simple, but is in fact a somewhat challenging project. We will tackle and master the difficulties of soldering small parts in place without melting the entire unit. Students must know how to solder silver and make simple rings.

  Any hammer that is at least 8 oz. or heavier to be used with metal stamps. It does not need to be brass. However, a Stamping hammer would be perfect!

Description

Make 1, 2 or 3 rings using sterling silver and 10kt gold to create a contemporary ring. Students will gain experience creating anticlastic rings, as well as soldering karat gold and small parts. Those who work quickly will finish a triple ring.

  Although any heavy duty cutter will work, if they are flush, they will make your work a lot easier. Cutter should be able to cut through 10g wire. (Many cutters imprint their cutting capacity on the inside of the handle.) Keiba and Xuron are recommended.

Description

Setting gem cut stones may be tricky, but by using a creative approach we will make it easy. This design will also make this a double sided pendant that can be worn both ways.
Tools
Tools required to complete project.
- Center punch
  Used to create a dimple in metal to start a hole for drilling. Also used for riveting. Provided by instructor for all classes
- Curved Burnisher
  
  Used to burnish or smooth the surface of metal. For most projects using this tool you will want at least a 3mm ball. This tool may also be found at your local craft store for use with clay or nail art.
- Cut Lube
  Used to lubricate saw blades and drill bits for ease of cutting.
- Flex shaft
  Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.

Description

Hollow forms let you create a lot of depth to your work while utilizing all of your skills. Starting from sheet metal and jump rings we will do some soldering, sawing and stone setting to build a pendant that will not be left in the shadows. Students are asked to come to class prepared with a few design ideas of their own, however remembering that complex designs simply means more sawing.

Description

Add a new dimension to copper without breaking your budget! From copper piping, wire and enamel we will create a vibrant bracelet. In this class we will touch on torch fired enamel, sawing and shaping techniques. Students will complete project.
Tools

- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Bezel Shears
  Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. (Tin snips or airplane shears will also work, however, they may be large and cumbersome.) If the project has curves in the design and you own a pair, bring curved bezel shears. This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.
- Oval Bracelet Mandrel, Steel
  For shaping and form metal into a bracelet shape. 2 will be provided to share for all classes. So if you have one, bring it.
- Butane Torch
  Great for small soldering projects, annealing and torch fired enameling. Instructor will provide torch and butane for every class needed. (1 for every 2 students for most classes other than basic soldering.)
  
  Pistol style torches may be used interchangeably to the MaxFlame torches. Its larger head is great for heavy or larger projects.
- Chasing Hammer
  Used for chasing/moving metal. In my classes chasing hammers are used to create hammer marks on metal and riveting. Instructor will provide for every class needed.
- Dust Mask
  A MUST if you want to drill shells and pearls. However, this is optional for classes with fumes such as etching and patinating. Classes that have a lot of dust do not require a mask, but it up to you if are you sensitive. (ie enameling.) Dust masks may be purchased at any hardware store.

Description

To make perfect connections you need to practice. Spend the day sweating, picking, chipping, wiring and pasting joints until you get comfortable. We will focus on all of the hard joints and do a little problem solving to find a fresh approach to soldering pins, jump ring, bezels, putting together unlike pieces, etc. Students are encouraged to bring any pieces they would like resolved.

There is usually not a different in price between ultra and just flush cutters so why not just buy the best? The image shows just a side cutter (top) and ultra flush (bottom).

Descrption

Take your ring making skills to another dimension by creating a dynamic piece with independently moving parts. Students will learn tricks that will make this seemingly impossible soldering job easier. We will finish off the piece by adding interest with a double sided semi-precious stone bead and gold-filled accents. Students must have experience making rings and silver soldering.

- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Bench Pin
  There are a variety of bench pins available on the market, any will do. However, you will need to bring a 4” or larger C-clamp. As the C-clamp provided with a bench pin does not fit most tables at the shows.
- Bezel Mandrel
  A small steel mandrel used to create round bezel settings, jump rings or other components.
- Bezel Shears
  Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. Penannulars have been around for centuries and made popular with the Celts. Typically ornate, this brooch has been adapted with a more modern design. By the end of class, you will be ready to Scarf It Up in style for the winter. .

- Riveting Hammer
  (aka Swiss Hammer) – Best hammer for riveting due to its small size. Instructor will provide for every class needed.
- Safety Glasses
  Protective Eye wear – All drilling classes require that you wear some sort of safety glasses. Will your eyeglasses be enough? This is a personal decision. Some students prefer to wear only their prescription glasses while others wear goggles over their glasses. These may be found in any hardware store.
- Super Grip Gloves
  Optional for all classes, but most have found these very helpful for drilling class and classes that require a lot filing sanding. Not only will they protect your hands, but the grip will allow you to hold onto the stones you are working with.
- Tube Cutting Pliers
  A great gadget to aid in cutting tubes. These pliers create even leverage on the tube for sawing. Provided for all classes with tubes.

Description

Create flare and movement with this class. Students will learn to shape and form a brass ring or copper ring and then lock an inner ring that will spin.
Tools

- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Cut Lube
  Used to lubricate saw blades and drill bits for ease of cutting.
- Hand Tools
  
  Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.

- Heavy Duty Cutters
  Although any heavy duty cutter will work, if they are flush, they will make your work a lot easier. Cutter should be able to cut through 10g wire. (Many cutters imprint their cutting capacity on the inside of the handle.) Keiba and Xuron are recommended.
- Household hammer
  Any hammer that is at least 8 oz. or heavier to be used with metal stamps. It does not need to be brass. However, a Stamping hammer would be perfect!

  Used to engrave custom names, words or designs on sheet metal.
- Ott Light or Task Lamp
  This is optional item that is listed for every class. It is up to you to determine whether or not you will need to have one depending on your vision.
- Rawhide/Leather Mallet
  Shape and flatten metal without marring it. #2 mallet is a standard size. Instructor will provide for every class needed. A yellow nylon mallet may be used in its place, however a rubberone may not.
- Ring Mandrel, Steel
  Used for shaping and forming metal into rings. A plastic one will not work in its place. Instructor will provide to share (1 for every 2 people) for every class needed.
- Ring Sizer

- Swivel Vise
  The advantage of this vise is the 360 degree swivel allowing you to brace a piece and move it in every direction. Classes requiring a vice can be any vice that may be clamped to table. Suction vices will also suffice.
- Wood Ring Mandrel
  Used to brace rings for polishing; this will save your hands. However, I also use a wood ring mandrel for project where I have to drill into the ring, this way you do not ruin your steel ring mandrel. Wood ring mandrels will be provided to share in classes.

Description

Handcrafted stacking rings are fun and easy to make. In this class students will learn to tube set gem cut stones and make rings. Most students will finish 2-3 rings.
Tools

- Curved Burnisher
  
  Used to burnish or smooth the surface of metal. For most projects using this tool you will want at least a 3mm ball. This tool may also be found at your local craft store for use with clay or nail art.
- Flex shaft
  Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.
- Hand Tools

- Rawhide/Leather Mallet
  Shape and flatten metal without marring it. #2 mallet is a standard size. Instructor will provide for every class needed. A yellow nylon mallet may be used in its place, however a rubberone may not.

  Used to hold rings, but some like to use a ring clamp for holding metal when filing to save their hands. Required mostly for stone setting classes to hold the ring shank.

There is usually not a different in price between ultra and just flush cutters so why not just buy the best? The image shows just a side cutter (top) and ultra flush (bottom).

Tools

- Bezel Pusher
  Not a tool I usually use, but from time to time they are helpful. Before using, consider sanding the edges of the tool to create a bevelled edge to reduce marring and scratches.
- Fine Tweezers
  Used for moving small parts. Classes requiring fine tweezers will not work with fire tweezers. These are a cheap investment. Please be bring some. Optional for most classes.
- Flex shaft

  Used with a flex shaft or Dremel to polish metal.

- Nylon nose parallel pliers
  – Parallel action provides even pressure while holding firm. I love using nylon parallel pliers to manipulate my metal. You may use regular nylon nose and parallel nylon nose interchangeably.
- Nylon nose pliers
  Flat nose pliers with PVC grips o the heads. Mostly used for straightening wire. In my classes they are used to prevent marring when bending metal. Only required for some classes, but this is mostly an optional item.
