    Description
    Learn an easy way to bend sterling silver tubing to create a cross over design or an open ended ring. Then we'll set CZ's on each end to add a little color and sparkle.

    Tools

    • Tool Flex Shaft

      Flex shaft

      Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited. 
    • Hand Tools

      Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.

      • Round nose - Typically it is preferred that the round nose be a fine tip. Especially for classes with detailed wire work.
      • Chain/needle nose – Tapered jaws for general metal and wire work. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes. Typically requested for classes to be used for opening and closing jump rings; in which case, 2 pairs are requested or a combination of chain nose and flat nose is suitable.
      • Flat nose – Similar to chain nose but the jaws are not tapered. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes.

      Magnifier or Optivisor

    • Muslin buffing wheels

      Used with a flex shaft or Dremel to polish metal.
    • Needle File Set

      Used for filing smaller pieces of metal and tight places. When required, either diamond coated or fine tooth is preferred. Some students may prefer to use smaller files as opposed to the student files for their projects.
    • Tool Nylon Bracelet Bending Pliers

      Bracelet bending pliers make re-shaping bracelets easy, but can also be used to create consistent shapes in wire and more. 

    • Tool Ott Light or Task Lamp

      Ott Light or Task Lamp

      This is optional item that is listed for every class. It is up to you to determine whether or not you will need to have one depending on your vision.
    • Rawhide/Leather Mallet

      Shape and flatten metal without marring it. #2 mallet is a standard size. Instructor will provide for every class needed. A yellow nylon mallet may be used in its place, however a rubberone may not.
    • Ring Mandrel, Steel

      Used for shaping and forming metal into rings. A plastic one will not work in its place. Instructor will provide to share (1 for every 2 people) for every class needed.
    • Ring Sizer

      Optional, used to measure your ring size. Several sets will be provided to share in class.

    Description
    This ring might look simple, but the challenge for this project will be soldering one part of the ring without melting another. We will work through the difficulties of soldering small parts in place while managing not to melt the entire unit. Students must know how to solder silver and make simple rings.

    • Cut Lube

      Used to lubricate saw blades and drill bits for ease of cutting.

      A great gadget to aid in cutting tubes. These pliers create even leverage on the tube for sawing. Provided for all classes with tubes.
    • Wood Ring Mandrel

    Description
    Learn enameling and cold connections in one class. You will learn to torch fire enamel on copper and use transparent enamels on silver to create true colors. After firing all the pieces, you will rivet them together. Students will finish at least one pendant.

    Tools

    Some tools will be provided by the instructor. Please refer to your registration.
    • Bench Block

      Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
    • Bezel Shears

      Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. (Tin snips or airplane shears will also work, however, they may be large and cumbersome.) If the project has curves in the design and you own a pair, bring curved bezel shears. This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.
    • Butane Torch

      Great for small soldering projects, annealing and torch fired enameling. Instructor will provide torch and butane for every class needed. (1 for every 2 students for most classes other than basic soldering.)

      Pistol style torches may be used interchangeably to the MaxFlame torches. Its larger head is great for heavy or larger projects.

    • Center punch

      Used to create a dimple in metal to start a hole for drilling. Also used for riveting. Provided by instructor for all classes
    • Divider

      Used to score metal to create lines for cutting. May also be used to aid in measuring for consistency. A compass will NOT work, I already tried.
    • Tool Dust Mask

      Dust Mask

      A MUST if you want to drill shells and pearls. However, this is optional for classes with fumes such as etching and patinating. Classes that have a lot of dust do not require a mask, but it up to you if are you sensitive. (ie enameling.) Dust masks may be purchased at any hardware store.
    • Enamel Kit

      Items in this Enamel Kit including enamels will be provided for use during in person classes. Thus is considered optional. If you are interested in ordering a kit please click on the image.       Also known as wire cutters or snippers. For many of my classes I prefer Ultra Flush side cutters because it eases the workload. Ultra flush is the most flush you can buy as opposed to just flush cutters. If you don't own a pair of Ultra Flush cutters, you may want to invest in a good pair either Lindstrom or Swanstrom. There is usually not a different in price between ultra and just flush cutters so why not just buy the best? The image shows just a side cutter (top) and ultra flush (bottom).

    Description
    If you have been be collecting beach glass, shells, river rocks or beads that don’t have holes, I have creative ways to make them useful. This class will offer hands on experience with a flex shaft and how to properly use it. Students will learn how to drill several pieces and create rivets for a great finish! Most students will finish at least 3 pieces. Stones will vary in color and size.

    Lets play with transparent enamels! Learn how to make your transparent enamels glow. We will also touch on separation enamel and a creative way to connect two enamel pieces.

    Make stacking rings with personalized monograms and add a touch of color by setting a stone. (a variety of stones will be provided to choose from.)

    • Curved Burnisher

      Used to burnish or smooth the surface of metal. For most projects using this tool you will want at least a 3mm ball. This tool may also be found at your local craft store for use with clay or nail art.

    • Hand Tools

      Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.

      • Round nose - Typically it is preferred that the round nose be a fine tip. Especially for classes with detailed wire work.

      Although any heavy duty cutter will work, if they are flush, they will make your work a lot easier. Cutter should be able to cut through 10g wire. (Many cutters imprint their cutting capacity on the inside of the handle.) Keiba and Xuron are recommended.

      Used to hold small parts in place while soldering. Instructor will provide to share for every class needed.
    • Household hammer

      Any hammer that is at least 8 oz. or heavier to be used with metal stamps. It does not need to be brass. However, a Stamping hammer would be perfect!

    Description
    Ready to move on from copper enameling? Silver, here we come! In this class, we will use silver sheet to allow transparent enamels colors to shine and show off the brilliance of silver. This technique will add new life to your enamel work. Students will have the opportunity to put their own flare to each piece.

    • Bezel Shears

      Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated.     Like the look of enameled silver but don’t like the expense? Here is a way to create a jewel effect on copper using silver foil and transparent enamels. We will cover all the basics of enameling and how to achieve a vibrant effect.

    Set all of your treasures in these attractive bezels. Using shells, beach glass or even marble as the center piece, you will fabricate a double-sided, sterling silver bezel. Students will have time to make at least one pendant, some will finish 2.

      Used to burnish or smooth the surface of metal. For most projects using this tool you will want at least a 3mm ball. This tool may also be found at your local craft store for use with clay or nail art.

    Soldering to enamels can be a little tricky, in this class I will demystify the process. We will add interest with an intricate design using mica and contrasting colors. Students are asked to bring their own rubber stamps of choice, bearing in mind that we will be working on a surface less than 1”x1” in size.

    Learn the basic concepts of soldering while creating a Spiral Chain. By the end of this class you will have an understanding of necessary tools and materials to successfully solder simple joints. Students will complete a spiral bracelet by the end of class.

    Learn the basic concepts in soldering and metal stamping while making rings.       Flex shaft

      Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited. 
    • Heavy Duty Cutters

      Although any heavy duty cutter will work, if they are flush, they will make your work a lot easier. Cutter should be able to cut through 10g wire. (Many cutters imprint their cutting capacity on the inside of the handle.) Keiba and Xuron are recommended.
    • Household hammer

      Any hammer that is at least 8 oz. or heavier to be used with metal stamps. It does not need to be brass. However, a Stamping hammer would be perfect!

    Tools required to complete project.
    • Propane Torch

      Either a Gentec or Smith Little propane torch. Used for detailed soldering. 
    • Agate burnisher

      Agate burnishers are not only used for stone setting but also for Keumboo. The do not damage metal, stone or other materials, making it a good option for polishing.
    • Fine Tweezers

      Used for moving small parts. Classes requiring fine tweezers will not work with fire tweezers. These are a cheap investment. Please be bring some. Optional for most classes.
    • Hand Punch

      1.25, 1.5, 1.8 mm. Used to make holes in metal. Please refer to class details for size needed.
    • Hand Tools

      Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.

      • Round nose - Typically it is preferred that the round nose be a fine tip. Especially for classes with detailed wire work.
      • Chain/needle nose – Tapered jaws for general metal and wire work. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes. Typically requested for classes to be used for opening and closing jump rings; in which case, 2 pairs are requested or a combination of chain nose and flat nose is suitable.
      • Flat nose – Similar to chain nose but the jaws are not tapered. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes.
         
    • Heavy Duty Cutters

      Although any heavy duty cutter will work, if they are flush, they will make your work a lot easier. Cutter should be able to cut through 10g wire. (Many cutters imprint their cutting capacity on the inside of the handle.) Keiba and Xuron are recommended.
    • Tool Magnifier or Optivisor

      Magnifier or Optivisor

      – For almost all classes this is listed as an “As Needed” tool. If you have sight challenges it is recommended that you are properly prepared. For advance stone setting classes this is required! If you decide to use reading glasses consider better than 2.5x.


    • Tool Metal Dap Set

      Metal Dap Set

      Used to dap metal to create a cup shape. 3 sets will be provided during classes to share. If you are bringing a set, please check with the instructor for needed sizes. Usually an entire set is needed for a class, only parts. This will lessen the weight you need to carry.
    • Needle File Set

      Used for filing smaller pieces of metal and tight places. When required, either diamond coated or fine tooth is preferred. Some students may prefer to use smaller files as opposed to the student files for their projects.
    • Rawhide/Leather Mallet

      Shape and flatten metal without marring it. #2 mallet is a standard size. Instructor will provide for every class needed. A yellow nylon mallet may be used in its place, however a rubberone may not.
    • Tool Setting Burnisher

      Concaved punches used to set stones.

    • Side Cutters

      Also known as wire cutters or snippers. For many of my classes I prefer Ultra Flush side cutters because it eases the workload. Ultra flush is the most flush you can buy as opposed to just flush cutters. If you don't own a pair of Ultra Flush cutters, you may want to invest in a good pair either Lindstrom or Swanstrom. There is usually not a different in price between ultra and just flush cutters so why not just buy the best? The image shows just a side cutter (top) and ultra flush (bottom).

    • Bezel Shears

      Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. (Tin snips or airplane shears will also work, however, they may be large and cumbersome.) If the project has curves in the design and you own a pair, bring curved bezel shears. This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.
    • Tool Flex Shaft

      Flex shaft

      Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.

    In this class, we will make a twist and add a twinkle to create stacking bracelets. You will learn to solder, forge and twist sterling silver.

    • Bench Pin

      There are a variety of bench pins available on the market, any will do. However, you will need to bring a 4” or larger C-clamp. As the C-clamp provided with a bench pin does not fit most tables at the shows. 
    • Tool Bracelet Mandrel

      Oval Bracelet Mandrel, Steel

      For shaping and form metal into a bracelet shape. 2 will be provided to share for all classes. So if you have one, bring it.
    • Tool C-clamp

      C-clamp

      To be used with bench pins to clamp to tables. May be found at any local hardware store. Must be at least 3 inches. 
    • Cut Lube

      Used to lubricate saw blades and drill bits for ease of cutting.

    Learn the basic concepts of silver soldering while creating a Wave Link Chain. By the end of this class you will have an understanding of necessary tools and materials to successfully solder simple joints. Students will complete a bracelet by the end of class.

      Reverse action pliers enabling the jaws to open when the handles are squeezed. Used mostly to stretch metal.

      Used for chasing/moving metal. In my classes chasing hammers are used to create hammer marks on metal and riveting. Instructor will provide for every class needed.
    • Hand Tools

      Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.

    Learn the basic concepts of silver soldering while creating an eclectic bracelet of different links. A variety of silver stock and beads will be provided to allow students the opportunity to tailor their bracelet. By the end of this class you will have an understanding of necessary tools and materials to successfully solder simple joints. Students will complete a bracelet by the end of class.

    • Tool Bead Crimper

      Bead Crimping Pliers

       – Bead crimping pliers are used with tube crimps to terminate beaded necklaces and bracelets. Crimping pliers give a nice finish to the crimps, however a pair of chain nose pliers will work also. In most classes that utilize beads for the necklace, students will not have time to finish the beadwork, thus you will not need to bring to class but you will need either the crimping pliers or chain nose pliers to finish the project. 

    • Bench Block

      Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
    • Bezel Mandrel

      A small steel mandrel used to create round bezel settings, jump rings or other components.
    • Bezel Rocker

      There are 2 bezel rockers on the market, the one shown is preferred, but if you own the other one it will work also. I usually have 2 to share at the shows.
    • Bezel Shears

      Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. (Tin snips or airplane shears will also work, however, they may be large and cumbersome.) If the project has curves in the design and you own a pair, bring curved bezel shears. This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.
    • Center punch

      Used to create a dimple in metal to start a hole for drilling. Also used for riveting. Provided by instructor for all classes
    • Chasing Hammer

      Used for chasing/moving metal. In my classes chasing hammers are used to create hammer marks on metal and riveting. Instructor will provide for every class needed.
    • Curved Burnisher

      Used to burnish or smooth the surface of metal. For most projects using this tool you will want at least a 3mm ball. This tool may also be found at your local craft store for use with clay or nail art.

    • Goldsmithing/Planishing/Raising Hammer

      Goldsmithing Hammer – Planishing Hammer – Rounded Raising Hammer – Classes requiring these hammers are utilizing the “blade” end for forming the metal on a wood forming block. Any of one of these hammers will work. 
    • Hand Tools

      Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.
