1+1+1+1=10??? Yup! In this fast paced class you will learn how to multiply your skills from 4 simple ingredients. Using 4 materials, I will teach you how to create TEN different chain links while learning to solder silver. We will discuss all the basics and safety, then you will get hands on experience in torching and soldering silver and jump rings. Although you do not need any experience, some wire work is helpful.

Some tools will be provided by the instructor. Please refer to your registration.
- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Chasing Hammer
  Used for chasing/moving metal. In my classes chasing hammers are used to create hammer marks on metal and riveting. Instructor will provide for every class needed.
- Hand Tools
  
  Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.
  
  Round nose - Typically it is preferred that the round nose be a fine tip. Especially for classes with detailed wire work.
  
  Chain/needle nose – Tapered jaws for general metal and wire work. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes. Typically requested for classes to be used for opening and closing jump rings; in which case, 2 pairs are requested or a combination of chain nose and flat nose is suitable.
  
  Flat nose – Similar to chain nose but the jaws are not tapered. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes.
- Magnifier or Optivisor
  – For almost all classes this is listed as an “As Needed” tool. If you have sight challenges it is recommended that you are properly prepared. For advance stone setting classes this is required! If you decide to use reading glasses consider better than 2.5x.
- Mini Stepped Mandrel
  Optional. Handy tool for wire work making loops, jump rings and shaping small pieces of metal.
- Multi-looping Pliers
  Optional unless stated, used in to create consist sized loops. Typically optional in my classes. Round nose may be use its place for most projects.
- Needle File Set
  Used for filing smaller pieces of metal and tight places. When required, either diamond coated or fine tooth is preferred. Some students may prefer to use smaller files as opposed to the student files for their projects.
- Ott Light or Task Lamp
  This is optional item that is listed for every class. It is up to you to determine whether or not you will need to have one depending on your vision.
- Metal Ruler
  6" metal ruler is preferred unless otherwise noted. A larger one will also work, however, it may be a little cumbersome.
- Side Cutters
  Also known as wire cutters or snippers. For many of my classes I prefer Ultra Flush side cutters because it eases the workload. Ultra flush is the most flush you can buy as opposed to just flush cutters. If you don't own a pair of Ultra Flush cutters, you may want to invest in a good pair either Lindstrom or Swanstrom. There is usually not a different in price between ultra and just flush cutters so why not just buy the best? The image shows just a side cutter (top) and ultra flush (bottom).

3 into 1 Rings - Intro to Basic Ring Making

Description

Learn how to make the classic “wishbone” design and basic stacking rings. All four rings may be worn separately, stacked or interchanged inside of the "wishbone" ring. I will discuss and demonstrate the basics of ring making and then move into the specifics of this classic design with a twist. Although there will not be time to work along, students are welcome to bring their questions. Class is conducted via Zoom.

- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Bench Pin
  There are a variety of bench pins available on the market, any will do. However, you will need to bring a 4” or larger C-clamp. As the C-clamp provided with a bench pin does not fit most tables at the shows.
- Cut Lube
  Used to lubricate saw blades and drill bits for ease of cutting.
- Flex shaft
  Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.
- Hand Tools

- Ring Mandrel, Steel
  Used for shaping and forming metal into rings. A plastic one will not work in its place. Instructor will provide to share (1 for every 2 people) for every class needed.
- Ring Sizer
  Optional, used to measure your ring size. Several sets will be provided to share in class.

- Swivel Vise
  The advantage of this vise is the 360 degree swivel allowing you to brace a piece and move it in every direction. Classes requiring a vice can be any vice that may be clamped to table. Suction vices will also suffice.

  Used to twist wire. That’s it! 2 pairs will be provided for class use.

  Reverse action pliers enabling the jaws to open when the handles are squeezed. Used mostly to stretch metal.
- Chasing Hammer

- Tool Nylon Bracelet Bending Pliers
  
  Bracelet bending pliers make re-shaping bracelets easy, but can also be used to create consistent shapes in wire and more.

Purple Heart Wood is one of the rarest woods found in Hawaii. Like all great things from Hawaii, a kiss from the sun brings out the beautiful color. In this class, we will put heart into a seemingly easy project to highlight this exotic wood.

Description

Revisit your childhood with an a-Mazing pendant complete with a moving copper ball. We will work through a labyrinth of steps to challenge your fabrication skills and along the way you may just pick up some new tips and techniques. You will saw, solder and set to complete this fun piece.

- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Bench Pin
  There are a variety of bench pins available on the market, any will do. However, you will need to bring a 4” or larger C-clamp. As the C-clamp provided with a bench pin does not fit most tables at the shows.

This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.
- C-clamp
  To be used with bench pins to clamp to tables. May be found at any local hardware store. Must be at least 3 inches.
- Curved Burnisher
  
  Used to burnish or smooth the surface of metal. For most projects using this tool you will want at least a 3mm ball. This tool may also be found at your local craft store for use with clay or nail art.
- Cut Lube
  Used to lubricate saw blades and drill bits for ease of cutting.
- Divider
  Used to score metal to create lines for cutting. May also be used to aid in measuring for consistency. A compass will NOT work, I already tried.
- Dressmakers T-pin
  
  Used mostly as a scoring tool, for most projects you may use any metal object that has a sharp point..
- Fine Tweezers
  Used for moving small parts. Classes requiring fine tweezers will not work with fire tweezers. These are a cheap investment. Please be bring some. Optional for most classes.
- Flex shaft
  Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.
- Glass Cutter
  Steel wheel for the purpose of scoring glass in the process of cutting.
- Hand Punch
  1.25, 1.5, 1.8 mm. Used to make holes in metal. Please refer to class details for size needed.

  – Parallel action provides even pressure while holding firm. I love using nylon parallel pliers to manipulate my metal. Parallel pliers were my favorite pliers until they made nylon nose parallel pliers. For almost all projects these pliers are optional. A modern interpretation of the anniversary ring, this pendant can be used to commemorate birthdays, anniversaries or Mother’s Day. This class will also focus on finishing for a well polished shine. This beginner project will have you impressing your friends. Learn soldering basics, how to set a bezel and create the perfect connections. Students will have the opportunity to choose their shape and stone.

- Bench Block
  Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.
- Bezel Rocker
  There are 2 bezel rockers on the market, the one shown is preferred, but if you own the other one it will work also. I usually have 2 to share at the shows.
- Bezel Shears
  Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. (Tin snips or airplane shears will also work, however, they may be large and cumbersome.) If the project has curves in the design and you own a pair, bring curved bezel shears. This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.
- Circle Template
  Used to create a pattern for cutting. For most classes this template needs to include circles at least 1.25" in diameter or larger.
- Flex shaft
  Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.

Description

Create all of the splendid colors of Autumn from copper stock. We will pierce a leaf shape and texturize copper to create a realistic look and feel. Then using heat we will add color. To complete the project we will set a dichroic cabochon for a little glimmer. To participate register at The Urban Beader.

  There are a variety of bench pins available on the market, any will do. However, you will need to bring a 4” or larger C-clamp. As the C-clamp provided with a bench pin does not fit most tables at the shows.

- Dressmakers T-pin
  
  Used mostly as a scoring tool, for most projects you may use any metal object that has a sharp point..
- Fine Tweezers
  Used for moving small parts. Classes requiring fine tweezers will not work with fire tweezers. These are a cheap investment. Please be bring some. Optional for most classes.

Add a splash of color to your water castings. In this class I’ll show you basic steps of enameling on silver, then we’ll solder it all together without damaging the enamel. Classes are conducted via Zoom.

Create a interesting and versitile setting. This stone setting may be used with just about any "flat-ish" cabochon or even a bead. We will add interest with texturized sheet metal and a little sparkle with a CZ. Class is conducted via Zoom, recordings are available.

Sometimes you just want to see both sides of a stone when you are setting it. This bezel setting technique will show you how to set free-formed stones without a back and at the same time introduce you to Fretz stakes. Students who work quickly will finish two pieces. A selection of glass will be provided to choose from. Additional materials and tools maybe purchased from instructor.

Long walks on the beach have yielded pockets full of glass and nowhere to go. Here is a way to make them useful. Learn to drill glass and rivet the holes for a great finish. Description

Regardless from which direction you view this piece there will be something special to tantalize the eye. Starting from sterling silver stock you will make twists and turns to create an open back setting and a unique bezel to set a cabochon in place. Then we will add the final touch with a custom bail to push this pendant over the top. Pre-requisite: Must have soldering experience and wire working experience.

Why recycle when you can upcycle! In this class we turn recycled bottles into glass ballpins. You will learn how to make these great gems on copper wire using a butane and/or propane torch. Steel or Anodized aluminum - Used as a hammering surface for metal stamping or working with metal.

Bench Pin
There are a variety of bench pins available on the market, any will do. However, you will need to bring a 4” or larger C-clamp. As the C-clamp provided with a bench pin does not fit most tables at the shows.

Bezel Shears
Used to cut metal sheet. There are many available on the market, any of which will work, however they should NOT be serrated. (Tin snips or airplane shears will also work, however, they may be large and cumbersome.) If the project has curves in the design and you own a pair, bring curved bezel shears. This is an optional item for most classes. Shears will be provided for use during classes.

Circle Template
Used to create a pattern for cutting. For most classes this template needs to include circles at least 1.25" in diameter or larger.

Cut Lube
Used to lubricate saw blades and drill bits for ease of cutting.

Fine Tweezers
Used for moving small parts. Classes requiring fine tweezers will not work with fire tweezers. These are a cheap investment. Please be bring some. Optional for most classes.

Flex shaft
Rotary tool used for polishing, drilling, finishing, etc. Flex shafts are available for purchase new and gently used at the class. Pleased contact the instructor if are interested in purchasing one at the class as quantities are limited.

Hand Tools

Basic hand tools – Any quality is appropriate for my classes. These do not need to be high end or expense.

Round nose - Typically it is preferred that the round nose be a fine tip. Especially for classes with detailed wire work.

Chain/needle nose – Tapered jaws for general metal and wire work. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes. Typically requested for classes to be used for opening and closing jump rings; in which case, 2 pairs are requested or a combination of chain nose and flat nose is suitable.

Flat nose – Similar to chain nose but the jaws are not tapered. Non-serrated are requested for all of my classes.

Heavy Duty Cutters
Although any heavy duty cutter will work, if they are flush, they will make your work a lot easier. Cutter should be able to cut through 10g wire. (Many cutters imprint their cutting capacity on the inside of the handle.) Keiba and Xuron are recommended.

Horned Anvil
For most classes using this anvil, the key is in the square side. We will use to assist in the forging of the shape.

Jeweler’s Saw
Used for cutting sheet metal and metal tubes. Instructor will provide for every class needed.

Magnifier or Optivisor
– For almost all classes this is listed as an “As Needed” tool. If you have sight challenges it is recommended that you are properly prepared. For advance stone setting classes this is required! If you decide to use reading glasses consider better than 2.5x.

Muslin buffing wheels
Used with a flex shaft or Dremel to polish metal.

Ott Light or Task Lamp
This is optional item that is listed for every class. It is up to you to determine whether or not you will need to have one depending on your vision.

Rawhide/Leather Mallet
Shape and flatten metal without marring it. #2 mallet is a standard size. Instructor will provide for every class needed. A yellow nylon mallet may be used in its place, however a rubberone may not.

Ring Mandrel, Steel
Used for shaping and forming metal into rings. A plastic one will not work in its place. Instructor will provide to share (1 for every 2 people) for every class needed.

Ring Sizer
Optional, used to measure your ring size. Several sets will be provided to share in class.

Round File
Used to file curved areas. Round files are gradually tapered, cut and workable to the point. Used where it is necessary to enlarge a hole or round off a radius.

Soldering Kit

(Optional)
Items in this Soldering Kit will be provided for use during the class. If you are interested in ordering a kit please click on the image. Kit includes: Butane torch, butane, 1 tube solder paste, fire tweezers, copper tweezers, Sparex, tripod with mesh, flux, soldering board. (Note: kit will be delivered at class. Description

This fabricating class will touch on multiple skills that can be used to enhance any smithing project. Create a contemporary ring while refining your sawing, shaping and soldering techniques. Students will be encouraged to create their own designs. If you are looking for a challenge this class will surely impress. Every step will refine your skills and give you experience with that tool (saw) you have been avoiding.

- Bench Block

  A great gadget to aid in cutting tubes. These pliers create even leverage on the tube for sawing. Provided for all classes with tubes.
